Vodkas are traditionally made from potatoes or grains but the Black Cow Vodka is made entirely from cow’s milk.
The vodka is made entirely from the milk of grass-grazed cows and distilled on England’s West Dorset coast. The milk is separated into curds and whey. The whey is then fermented into a milk beer which is distilled thrice before it’s turned to vodka.
The finished product is an exceptionally smooth vodka with a unique and creamy character which is totally safe if you are lactose-tolerant. The company also makes its own cheddar which pairs well with Black Cow.
The vodka was invented by a dairy farmer in the UK who owned a herd of 250 cows and wanted to find an alternative use for their milk.
The method used in making Black Cow vodka could help in reducing food waste because whey, which is the by-product of making cheese, often gets wasted.
The vodka would cost about ₦10,000 in Nigeria.
